本課您將學到:kill(殺人?)Its not that big of a deal!(沒什么大不了?。?/p>
Macy comes home and finds her little brother Greg sitting in the kitchen looking guilty.
Macy: Why does it reek of smoke in here?
Greg: Er I was cooking some eggs and
Macy: Dont lie(說謊) to me. You were smoking, werent you?
Greg: I just had a few puffs, and I didnt even like it.
Macy: Good. Dad would kill you if you started smoking.
Greg: Who do you think I got the cigarette from?
Macy: But smoking is for adults(成年人).
Greg: Its not that big of a deal! Everyone at school smokes.
Macy: And if everyone at school decided to jump off a bridge(橋), would you join them?
Greg: Well, what do you want me to do? My two best friends smoke, and when I dont join them, they laugh at me.
Macy: I know all about peer pressure. Its just not worth it to give in.
Greg: One day Ill be an adult, and you wont be able to tell me what to do.
Macy: In the meantime, trust me on this one. Dont start something you may not be able to stop.
(Why does it reek of smoke),還假裝說自己是在煎蛋(I was cooking some eggs)。
The manager took a puff at his cigarette. He blew out three candles with a single puff.
The boss will kill me if he finds out. 弟弟有恃無恐,原因很簡單:你以為我是從誰哪得到煙的?(Who do you think I got the cigarette from?)
Children and grown-ups should have equal rights.(兒童和大人應該享有同樣的權利,grown-up也可以表示成年人),所以對姐姐的批評不以為然,那又怎么樣!(Its not that big of a deal!) (Everyone at school smokes.) Its not that big of a deal! 或者Whats the big deal!
A: I caught a fish twice that big last week.(上星期我釣到的魚有那條的兩倍大。)
B: Whats the big deal! Ive caught a fish twice bigger than yours.(那算什么! ?/p>
弟弟自以為回答得很瀟灑,沒想到被姐姐抓住了把柄,反問他:如果學校里的人都去跳河,你也去嗎?(if everyone at school decided to jump off a bridge, would you join them?)
弟弟理虧詞窮,口氣軟了下來:你到底想要我怎么樣?(what do you want me to do?) They all laughed at her queer idea.(他們都嘲笑她的怪念頭。)
↖ts not worth it.) Its not worth it, youd better rent a video instead.(沒什么意思,還是租影碟吧。)
(you wont be able to tell me what to do.)
