A Funny Thing Happened to Me
A funny thing happened to me last Friday. Id gone to London to do some shopping. I wanted to get some Christmas presents, and I needed to find some books for my course at school . I caught an early train to London so by early afternoon Id bought everything that I wanted. Anyway, Im not very fond of London, all the noise and traffic, and Id made some arrangements for that evening. So, I took a taxi to Waterloo station. I cant really afford taxis, but I wanted to get the 3:30 train. Unfortunately the taxi got stuck in a traffic jam, and by the time I got to Waterloo, the train had just gone. I had to wait an hour for the next one. I bought an evening newspaper the Standard, and wandered over to the station buffet. At that time of day its nearly empty, so I bought a coffee and a packet of biscuits--chocolate biscuits. Im yew fond of chocolate biscuits. There were plenty of empty tables and I found one near the window. I sat down and began doing the crossword. enjoy doing crossword puzzles.
After a couple of minutes a man sat down opposite me. There was nothing special about him, except that he was very tall. In fact he looked like a typical city businessman--you know, dark suit and briefcase. I didnt say anything and I carried on with my crossword. Suddenly he reached across the table, opened my packet of biscuits, took one, dipped it into his coffee and popped it into his mouth, I couldnt believe my eyes! I was too shocked to say any thing. Anyway, I didnt want to make a fuss, so I decided to ignore it. I always avoid trouble if I can. I just took a biscuit myself and went back to my crossword.
When the man took a second biscuit, I didnt look up and I didnt make a sound. I pretended to be very interested in the puzzle. After a couple of minutes, I casually put out my hand, took the last biscuit and glanced at the man. He was staring at me furiously. I nervously put the biscuit in my mouth, and decided to leave. I was ready to get up and go when the man suddenly pushed back his chair, stood up and hurried out of the buffet. I felt very re. lieved and decided to wait two or three minutes before going myself. I finished my coffee, folded my newspaper and stood up. And there, on the table, where my newspaper had been, was my packet of biscuits.

上周五我碰到了一樁有趣的事。我去倫敦購物，想買些圣誕禮物，還想找些學(xué)校教程。我趕了早班車去倫敦，這樣剛到下午我就已經(jīng)買好了想買的一切。不管怎樣，我不喜歡倫敦，喧鬧且交通擁擠，而且那天晚上，我已經(jīng)有了安排。于是我搭出租車去了滑鐵盧車站。其實我是搭不起出租車的，可我想趕上3：30的火車。不幸的是，出租車遇到了交通阻塞，等我到滑鐵盧的時候，火車剛好離開。無奈，我只好等一 個小時乘下一趟。我買了一份晚報《標準報》，然后逛到了車站
的餐廳。那時候餐廳幾乎空無一人，于是我買了一杯咖啡、一包餅干巧克力餅干。我非常喜歡巧克力餅干。那里有好多空桌子，我挑了一張靠窗的。坐下后我開始做字謎游戲。我一直很喜歡玩字謎游戲。
幾分鐘后一個男人坐在我的對面。他除了個子高沒什么特別的。事實上，他看上去像個典型的城市商人你知道，黑色套裝和公文包，我沒說什么，繼續(xù)做我的字謎游戲。突然他把手伸到桌上，打開了我那包餅干，拿出一塊，蘸了蘸他的咖啡，很快塞進嘴里。我簡直不能相信自己的眼睛!我震驚得一句話也說不出來。不管怎么說，我不想小題大做，所以我決定只當(dāng)沒看見算了。能不惹麻煩，我盡量不惹麻煩，我只是拿了一塊餅干，又回到我的字謎游上。
那個男人拿第二塊餅干時，我沒抬頭，也沒出聲，裝出一副對字謎很感興趣的樣子。幾分鐘后，我不經(jīng)意地伸出手，拿出了最后一塊餅干，然后看了看那個男人。他正怒氣沖沖地盯著我。我不安地把餅干放進嘴里，并決定離開。我正要起身離開時，那個男人突然推開椅子，急匆匆地走出了餐廳。我感到很輕松，決定等兩三分鐘再走。我喝完咖啡，疊好報紙，站了起來。只見桌上，放報紙的地方，放著我的那包餅干。
