A 這幾個詞用做形容詞時，要與所修飾的名詞在數(shù)上一致。它們是唯一隨名詞的數(shù)的變化而變化的形容詞。
This beach was quite empty last year.

This exhibition will be open until the end of May.

These people come from that hotel over there.

有時為了表示強(qiáng)調(diào)，用this/these/that/those+名詞+of+your/hers等或Anns等這一結(jié)構(gòu)，而不用 your/her等+名詞結(jié)構(gòu)：
This diet of mine/My diet isnt having much effect.
我節(jié)食的方法效果不大。
That car of Anns/Anns car is always breaking down.

由這樣的短語構(gòu)成的話通常具有令人不滿的貶義，但不一定總是這樣。
B this/these/，that/those用做代詞：
This is my umbrella.Thats yours.
這把傘是我的。那是你的。
These are the old classrooms. Those are the new ones.

-Whos that(man over there)?
-Thats Tom Jones.

I am這一說法要比this is稍微正式一些。如果打電話者不認(rèn)識受話者，一般用I am。打電話者的姓名+ here(如：Tom here)要比this is+打電話者的姓名更隨便一些。those后邊可以跟限定性關(guān)系從句：
Those who couldnt walk were carried on stretchers.
那些不能走的人都用擔(dān)架抬著。
this/that可指前邊已經(jīng)提到的名詞、短語或從句：
They are digging up my road.They do this every summer.

C this/these， that/those與one/ones連用：
要表達(dá)比較或選擇的意思時，this/these，that/those這些指示形容詞后常跟代詞one/ones。但是，除了this/these，that/those后跟有形容詞的情況外，one/ones可以省略：
