(2011·廣東高考)A year after graduation, I was offered a position teaching a writing class.Teaching was a profession I had never seriously considered, though several of my stories had been published.I accepted the job without hesitation, as it would allow me to wear a tie and go by the name of Mr Davis. My father went by the same name, and I liked to imagine people getting the two of us confused.“Wait a minute,” someone might say, “are you talking about Mr Davis the retired man, or Mr Davis the respectable scholar?”
The position was offered at the last minute, and I was given two weeks to prepare, a period I spent searching for a briefcase (公文包) and standing before my full-length mirror, repeating the words, “Hello, class, I'm Mr Davis.” Sometimes I would give myself an aggressive voice.Sometimes I would sound experienced. But when the day eventually came, my nerves kicked in and the true Mr Davis was there.I sounded not like a thoughtful professor, but rather a 12-year-old boy.
I arrived in the classroom with paper cards designed in the shape of maple leaves.I had cut them myself out of orange construction paper.I saw nine students along a long table.I handed out the cards, and the students wrote down their names and fastened them to their breast pockets as I required.
“All right then.” I said.“Okay, here we go.” Then I opened my briefcase and realized that I had never thought beyond this moment.I had been thinking that the students would be the first to talk, offering their thoughts and opinions on the events of the day.I had imagined that I would sit on the edge of the desk, overlooking a forest of raised hands.Every student would shout to be heard, and I would knock on something in order to silence them.I would yell, “Calm down, you'll all get your turn. One at a time, one at a time!”
A terrible silence ruled the room, and seeing no other options, I instructed the students to pull out their notebooks and write a brief essay related to the theme of deep disappointment.

1.A 事實(shí)細(xì)節(jié)題。
第二段講到,在第一堂課之前,“我”花費(fèi)時(shí)間挑選公文包,站在鏡子前面反復(fù)練習(xí),尤其是從“But when the day eventually came, my nerves kicked in...”
根據(jù)第三段“I handed out the cards, and the students wrote down their names and fastened them to their breast pockets as I required.”
由最后一段“A terrible silence ruled the room,...”
B
(2011·四川高考)“Experience may possibly be the best teacher, but it is not a particularly good teacher.” You might think that Winston Churchill or perhaps Mark Twain spoke those words, but they actually come from James March, a professor at Stanford University and a pioneer in the field of organizational decision making. For years March (possibly the wisest philosopher of management) has studied how humans think and act, and he continues to do so in his new book The Ambiguities of Experience.
He begins by reminding us of just how firmly we have been sticking to the idea of experiential learning:“ Experience is respected; experience is sought; experience is explained.” The problem is that learning from experience involves (涉及) serious complications(復(fù)雜化), ones that are part of the nature of experience itself and which March discusses in the body of this book.
In one interesting part of the book, for example, he turns a doubtful eye toward the use of stories as the most effective way of experiential learning. In our efforts to make stories interesting, he argues, we lose part of the complicated truth of things. He says “The more accurately(精確地) reality is presented, the less understandable the story, and the more understandable the story, the less realistic it is.”
Besides being a broadly knowledgeable researcher, March is also a poet, and his gift shines through in the depth of views he offers and the simple language he uses.Though the book is short, it is demanding:Don't pick it up looking for quick, easy lessons.Rather, be ready to think deeply about learning from experience in work and life.
1.According to the text, James March is ________.
A.a(chǎn) poet who uses experience in his writing
B.a(chǎn) teacher who teaches story writing in university
C.a(chǎn) researcher who studies the way humans think and act
D.a(chǎn) professor who helps organizations make important decisions
2.According to James March, experience ________.
A.is overvalued
B.is easy to explain
C.should be actively sought
D.should be highly respected
3.What can we learn from Paragraph 3?
A.Experience makes stories more accurate.
B.Stories made interesting fail to fully present the truth.
C.The use of stories is the best way of experiential learning.
D.Stories are easier to understand when reality is more accurately described.
4.What's the purpose of this text?
A.To introduce a book.
B.To describe a researcher.
C.To explain experiential learning.
D.To discuss organizational decision making.
簡(jiǎn)要介紹了James March(斯坦福大學(xué)的教授)的一本新書The Ambiguities of Experience的主要內(nèi)容。
根據(jù)第一段中的“a pioneer in the field of organizational decision making”可排除D項(xiàng)。
根據(jù)第二段第一句可知他在新書的開始提到他堅(jiān)持的經(jīng)驗(yàn)學(xué)習(xí)的理念就是“Experience is respected;experience is sought;experience is explained.”。
