體壇英語資訊:Zvonareva stuns top seed into US Open final

?Vera Zvonareva of seventh seed breezed past top seed Caroline Wozniacki to reach the US Open final on Friday.

The Russian outplayed Denmark's Wozniacki 6-4, 6-3 in attribution to her hard serve and aggressive attack.

Echoing the qualities that underpinned her impressive run to the Wimbledon final, Zvonareva showed confidence and composure all through the match.

"I think it's the same probably as the previous match, very similar. It's the right balance between being patient and being aggressive. You know, with those windy conditions you have to play sometimes ugly. you don't have to expect to play your best tennis, " Zvonareva said of the key for her victory.

"That's what I did well. I was not expecting to play my best tennis, but I was trying to be patient when I needed, and step up when I got the chance."

The seventh seed lost to Serena Williams in the Wimbledon final in July.

"I think it was a great experience overall at Wimbledon. It's something that I will always remember, but I'm trying to look forward. Wimbledon is in the past. I have the experience. I'm just looking forward," said the 26-year-old Russian.

Zvonareva found her serve break at the third game of opening set, taking the advantage of triple break point. Wozniacki's shot hit the net to give up the break and also the first set in 6-4.

Wozniacki successfully saved two break points at the opening game of second set, but withered again at the third game to allow another break to the Russian. The Dane hit the ball long to allow the break point converted, but she just returned a break at the next game thanks to a down net drive, levelling 2-2.

The top seed could not tranfer the break into turning point, but to see her to be broken again at the fifth game as the Russian held triple break points in hand. Another down-net error from Wozniacki enabled Zvonareva to be ahead 3-2 and never looked back.

With a swift serve game being secured at the eighth game, Zvonareva came to a 5-3 lead, Woziniacki committed two consecutive mistakes to give the last serve up to Zvonareva's 6-3 set win.

Wozniacki made 31 unforced errors and had her serve broken for the fourth time to end the match. She hit the ball into the net on the final point.

"She (Zvonareva) played a really good game, definitely. She was not missing a lot. She was going for her shots. Most things were going in," said 20-year-old Wozniacki.

"I made some mistakes today that I usually don't do. It's a tough day for me."

Wozniacki, the U.S. Open runner-up to Kim Clijsters a year ago, would have passed Williams as the top-ranked player on the WTA Tour had she won the US Open.

"I don't like losing. I think it's always disappointing when you lose a match. But, I just need to learn from this. I made it to the semifinals of the US Open, and still when I look back on this tournament I can be proud of what I've achieved," added the Dane.

"I was really trying, I was really trying to move my legs even more, trying to get into this rhythm when I could lead in this game. But, you know, she was really strong today and she played really well."

Zvonareva hasn't dropped a set in the tournament. She will take on Kim Clijsters, the defending champion from Belgium who clinched her 20th straight victory at the U.S. Open in the semifinals over two-time champion Venus Williams, 4-6, 7-6 (7-2), 6-4.

"I'm happy with the way I played today," said Zvonareva.

"It was a tough match, but I was patient and aggressive like I was in the previous matches."
