放生的故事:可怕的生日宴會(huì)
There was an official who swore never to kill any living creature， but his wife had a nasty temper and a greedy mouth. Every day she killed some animal to make a tasty dish. Her husband never ate any of those dead animals.
一個(gè)官員，他發(fā)誓永不殺生。但是他的妻子是一個(gè)壞脾氣的人，胃口又大。每天她都?xì)⒁恍﹦?dòng)物來(lái)吃。她丈夫從不吃這些動(dòng)物。
One year she was having a big feast prepared for her birthday. There were pigs， goats， chickens， and ducks， all crying sadly， because they knew they were going to die.
一年，她為了慶祝自己的生日準(zhǔn)備了一次盛大的宴會(huì)。豬、羊、雞、鴨都痛苦地號(hào)叫，因?yàn)樗鼈冎雷约阂粴⒌袅恕?/p>
When the official saw this， he felt very sorry. He told his wife， Tomorrow is your birthday， but all these animals are about to die. You should feel sorry for them， and do a good deed.
當(dāng)那個(gè)官員看到后，他很同情。于是他對(duì)妻子說(shuō)：明天是你的生日，這些動(dòng)物都要被殺掉了。你應(yīng)該可憐它們，做做善事。
That made her mad. She said， You mean we should all be Buddhists and swear off killing? If everybody did that， in a few years， there would be animals all over the place. Im not going to buy that!
這話惹火了她。她說(shuō)，你的意思是我們都應(yīng)該成為佛教徒，發(fā)誓不殺生?如果人人都那樣的話，沒(méi)幾年，到處都是動(dòng)物了。我才不買你的帳呢!
The next day， she was happily waiting for her feast to begin. When the first pig was hauled out and stabbed， her spirit went into its body and she felt the knife going in and ripping her apart!
第二天，她高興地等著開(kāi)筵席。當(dāng)?shù)谝恢回i被拖出來(lái)，被刺了一刀，她覺(jué)得自己的靈魂到了豬的身體內(nèi)，那一刀好像快要把她撕裂了!
Then a goat was killed， and she could feel how the goat felt as it was butchered. Then it was a chickens turn， and her spirit went into the chickens body and she felt her neck being wrung. She never knew anything could hurt so much! Every time an animal was killed， she felt all its pain. She knew she had done wrong. She told the cooks to stop killing those animals， to let them loose.
然后一只羊被宰殺了，她覺(jué)得自己感同身受。接著殺到一只雞了，她的靈魂進(jìn)入那只雞的身體，覺(jué)得自己的脖子快要被擰斷了。她覺(jué)得痛苦極了，每一只動(dòng)物被殺，她能感受到它的所有痛楚。她知道自己做錯(cuò)了。她告訴廚子們，不要再殺那些動(dòng)物了，把它們放生。
From then on， she never took another life or ate another mouthful of animal flesh. She told everybody how much animals suffer when they are being butchered，and how unfair it is to kill dumb beasts for food.
從那以后，她再也不殺生，也再?zèng)]吃過(guò)一口肉。她告訴別人動(dòng)物被殺時(shí)的痛苦，而且屠殺這些不會(huì)說(shuō)話的生靈，僅僅為了口食，這是多么不公平。
Because of her good deeds and mercy， she lived a long life.
